Donald Clinton Morgan

Donald Clinton Morgan, age 88, passed away on Dec. 6, 2015, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

Don was born on Aug. 14, 1927, in Salisbury, the son of the late Walter C. and Neta Cranford Morgan. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Morgan. He married Peggy Wolfe Morgan on Oct. 14, 1951.

Don was a 1950 graduate of Catawba College and the Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Hospital Administrators. He served as assistant administrator of Rowan Memorial Hospital in Salisbury, Good Samaritan Hospital of Charlotte and Anderson Memorial Hospital of Anderson, S.C., before coming to C.J. Harris Hospital in Sylva as the Chief Executive Officer for 32 years before retiring.

He was a United States Army veteran serving in Europe during World War II. Don was a member of many national, state and local hospital associations. He was named the Outstanding Hospital Administrator for the North Carolina Hospital Association in 1987. He was the honored recipient of the Jackson County Citizen of the Year Award in 1970 and also the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award from Governor James B. Hunt Jr. in 1983. Don held fellowship memberships in many health and hospital organizations over the years.

Don was a longtime member of Sylva Presbyterian Church and was currently a member of Canton Presbyterian Church.

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy, of 64 years; three sons, Dr. Brad C. Morgan and his wife, Sally, of Canton, and Andrew Morgan and Jeffery Morgan, both of Sylva; his stepmother, Mrs. Lena M. Morgan of Gold Hill; two brothers, Bronnie Morgan and his wife, Shelly, of Salisbury and Darrell Morgan of Atlantic Beach; six grandchildren, Megan Morgan of Lolo, Mont., Molly Stroud (Dan) of Huntersville, Jessica Morgan of Sylva, Jennifer Davidson (Todd) of Sylva, Mica Turpin of Snellville, Ga., and Alex Morgan of Sylva.

Services: A memorial service for Don to be held at Sylva Presbyterian Church will be announced in mid-January, 2016.

Memorials: May be made to the Presbyterian Church in Sylva, Youth Fund, P.O. Box 2152, Sylva, NC, or Canton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 784, Canton, NC.
