CHINA GROVE -- James Bernard Eagle, 86, 4265 First St., Enochville community, died Wednesday (Nov. 12, 2003) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Aug. 29, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Eagle was a son of the late Gideon and Mary Bessie Morgan Eagle.

He attended Clermont Freewill Baptist Church, Kannapolis. In 1982, he retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1, No. 6 weave room after 39 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Driver Eagle, and son, Don Farrell Eagle.

Survivors include wife Ella Grooms Eagle; daughters Jill Hudson, China Grove, Bessie Hubbard, Kannapolis, Elaine Smith, Concord, and Diane Steelman, Baltimore, Md.; stepson Billy "B.J." Johns, Columbia, S.C.; brother Harold Eagle, Kannapolis; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Whitley's Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Clayton Palmer and the Rev. Mike Edwards. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on First Street.
