Hazel Lentz Russell

Hazel Lentz Russell, 97, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021.

She was born October 4, 1923, in Rowan County to the late Joe and Nancy Morgan Lentz. Mrs. Russell was a graduate of Rockwell School and retired from McCanless Drapery where she was a seamstress. She was a lifelong and oldest member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Gold Hill. Mrs. Russell enjoyed traveling to the beach and loved to read. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her children and spoiling her grandchildren. She looked forward to spending time with her family at the lake, swimming, having bonfires, and roasting hotdogs and marshmallows.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.L. Russell; and sisters, Myrtle Plyler, Ruby Bonds, Pauline Frick.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Wagner (David) of Salisbury, Richard Russell of Salisbury, and Danny Russell (Joyce) of Gold Hill; grandchildren, Tricia Earnhardt, Jason Wagner, Michael Russell, Dawn Lomax, Shalyn Lindsay, Sonya Van Camp, Joshua Russell, Nathan Wagner; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM Thursday, June 10, at Liberty United Methodist Church.

The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm on Thursday, at the church, with Rev. Charles Curtis officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Liberty United Methodist Church.
