Notes for Carolyn Virginia Sides
Carolyn S. Raisig

SANFORD - Mrs. Carolyn Sides Raisig, 74, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010.

Carolyn was born June 25, 1936, in Albemarle, to the late Eldridge and Rachel Sides.

Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Paul J. Raisig of Sanford; two daughters, Dawn Hardwick and husband Mike of Houston, and Anne Ellis and husband Rick of Manassas, Va.; son, Chris Raisig and wife Jennifer of Chatham County; a sister, Becky Riddle of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Jimmy Hardwick, Matthew and Jeremy Raisig, and Katie and Cassie Ellis; and a great-grandchild, Mina Hardwick.

Carolyn grew up in Fayetteville, graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1953, and attended Women's College of North Carolina. While working at a local bank, she met her future husband, Paul J. Raisig, then a U.S. Army second lieutenant stationed at Fort Bragg. They were married on June 12, 1955, and her career as a devoted military wife began. Over the years, Carolyn moved around the country to support Paul's military assignments, raised three children, and built a successful career in the banking industry. Twenty five years ago, Carolyn and Paul returned to North Carolina and made their home on Buffalo Lake near Sanford. Carolyn found her greatest joy in her family and friends, especially doting on her grandchildren, spending time with her children, and making others feel special. Music, Elvis, Las Vegas and Christmas were among her favorite things. Carolyn had a heart of gold and touched many people with her smile. She will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit and unselfish love for others.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, 500 Ramsey St., Fayetteville. A service of remembrance will in the Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, 220 E. Russell St., Fayetteville, NC 28301.
