LOCUST - Phillip Ritchie Carter Sr., 84, of 17084 Pond Road, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Carter was born May 5, 1921, in Rowan County to the late Daniel Carter and Hattie Carter. He was a house painter at PRP Inc. and attended West Stanly Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Thomas Carter; brothers Daniel Carl Carter Jr. of Hagerstown, Md., Bobby Carter of Albemarle, Billy Carter of Salisbury, Jimmy Groome Carter of Columbia, S.C.; and sisters Nellie Carter White and Judy Carter Watkins, both of Salisbury.
Survivors include sons Phillip Carter Jr. and Randy Carter of Locust; wife Thelma Sue Shephard Carter of Locust; daughters Kathy Sutherland of Alabama, Linda Miller of Locust and Cicle Sutherland of Florida; brother John Paul Carter of Salisbury; sisters Patricia "Patsy" Carter of Salisbury and Myrtle Carter Moore of Hagerstown, Md.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at West Stanly Baptist Church in Albemarle, with burial at the church cemetery.
Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle handled arrangements for the family.
