Dot Furr

Dorothy Mae “Dot” Barbee Furr, 76, of Concord, died Friday,October 17, 2014 at her home.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Gordon Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be held at Friendship United Methodist Church,4695 Mt. Pleasant Rd. S., Concord, NC, on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Armistead officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. 

A Stanly County native, Dot was the oldest of five children born to Bruce Edward Barbee and Melvin Louise Lee Barbee. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nancy Louise Barbee; brother, Edward Grant Barbee; brother, Max Gordon Barbee; grandson, Grayson Philip Furr; and great-grandson, Baxter Floyd Newton.

Dot graduated from Stanfield School. She was owner/operator of Tender Loving Center, Inc. for twenty-seven years. Dot gave selflessly of herself to anyone she encountered. Her genuine love for children was evident through the care and nurturing she provided at the center, but especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who she cherished dearly.

Dot is survived by her husband of 58 years, Floyd Ray Furr; three sons, Terry Ray Furr, of Mt. Pleasant; Philip Jacob Furr and wife, Lori Cauthen Furr, of Mt. Pleasant; Stephen LeRay Furr of Long Beach, Mississippi; one daughter, Beverly Renee Furr Kubacki and husband, Kevin Kubacki, of Albemarle; seven grandchildren, Greg Furr (Shelby) of Concord; Amber Newton (Shane) of Mt. Pleasant; Kaitlyn Kubacki of Albemarle; Rylee, Jacob, Caden and Mason Furr all of Mt. Pleasant; and four great-grandchildren, Skylar and Brylie Newton; and Tye and Avery Furr; sister, Sue King (Larry) of Midland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Dot’s memory be made to Friendship United Methodist Church.
