Notes for Marilyn Horah
Marilyn Horah Cohen

Marilyn Horah Cohen, 83, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Autumn Care of Salisbury. Today she is rejoicing with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and is reunited with family and friends.

She was born Aug. 19, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio. She was the daughter of Homer Miller Horah and Margaret Belle Pierce Horah. As a child she excelled at ballet and singing. She was a member of a professional children's chorus and learned to sing in many different languages. Her voice was beautiful!

She moved to Salisbury at the age of 14 and graduated from Boyden High School and attended Salisbury Business College. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Martin Luther Sunday School Class. She was also a leader of Brownie Troop #7 at St. John's.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed providing fun and educational opportunities for her children and grandchildren. She liked the daily challenge of a crossword puzzle and stimulating conversation. She never met a stranger and was a friend to all.

She met her husband, James Newton Cohen, Sr., on the downtown square of Salisbury and knew at that moment that they would be together. She loved him and faithfully supported him in his career. They were married for 58 years before he preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 2010. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Jean Cohen, on Oct. 3, 1954.

Left to cherish her memory are sons, Jim Cohen (Vicki) of Trinity and Tommy Cohen (Lorie) of Salisbury; daughter, Robin Cohen of Salisbury; grandchildren, Meghann Cohen Robinson (Tanner) of Winston Salem, Caroline Cohen Davey (Benjamin) of Cary, Mary Chandler Cohen of Charlotte, Laurel Elizabeth Cohen of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Daniel Thomas Cohen of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Chandler Gray Robinson, MacRae Alexandra Robinson, Nicholas Ridley Davey and Olivia Kate Davey.
