Eugene B. Pickler

Eugene B. Pickler, 82, of New London passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at Carolinas Healthcare System Stanly.  His memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Kendalls Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Christian Herring.

Born June 14, 1934 in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Jacob Maurice Pickler and Lena Jerome Peck Pickler.  He graduated from Richfield High School.  He then proceeded to attend and graduate from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics.  He also graduated from Michigan State University with a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics.  He returned to New London to work with the family business Springdale Farms.  He also taught Economics at Pfeiffer University for over 50 years.

He was a lifelong member at Kendalls Baptist Church in New London.  He was a very active member of the FarmHouse Fraternity at North Carolina State University and at the National level.  At one time he was also a member of the Stanly County Board of Education for 12 years, a member of the New London Lions Club, and a member of the Stanly County Investment Club.  He established the Gene and Janet Pickler International Endowed Scholarship at Pfeiffer University.

Eugene was married to the late Janet Wirth Pickler who preceded him in death on March 8, 2013.  He is survived by three daughters, Audrey Barringer of New London, Sara Pickler of Albemarle, and Eva Pickler and husband Stirling Young of Upperville, Virginia.  One brother, Maurice J. Pickler, preceded him in death.  He is also survived by a sister-in-law Adelaide Pickler of Raleigh.  He is survived by three grandchildren, Rachel Barringer, Christine Barringer, and Garrett Barringer.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care.

Memorials can be made to the Gene and Janet Pickler International Endowed Scholarship at Pfeiffer University.
