Jiles Cletus Forrest

Jiles Cletus Forrest, age 92, of 1221 Hwy 134 N, Troy died peacefully at his home Saturday, March 28, 2015 with his wife and friends at his side.

Cletus was born February 15, 1923 in Stanly County, NC, the son of Henry William and Elizabeth Almond Forrest.

Cletus was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Stanly County. He owned and operated for many years Sox by Jiles Hosiery Mill of Troy and loved panning for gold and restoring old Model A vehicles.

He was a lifetime member of the Troy American Legion Post 159 and was a US Army veteran of World War II having served in the 75th Infantry in Europe and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Purple Heart and a number of other medals.

Cletus was honored to be a part of the Triad Flight of Honor October 3, 2009. This was his first flight on a commercial jet. He was impressed by all of the historic places he was able to see and visit during his unforgettable trip.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two daughters: Linda Forrest Harrup and Dona Diane Forrest; siblings: Homer Forrest, Frances Stiller, Christine Borders and Louise Barringer.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-two years: Ruby Bowers Forrest of the home; one grandson: Richard Charles Moll, III and wife, Elizabeth and two great-grandchildren: Landon Allen Moll and Olivia Rose Moll.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 30, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Troy, Troy with Dr. Phillips McRae officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Troy, or Community Home Care and Hospice of Troy.
