Fred T. Hollis

Dr. Fred T. Hollis was the son the Rev. Dr. A.N. and Maude Shutt. He graduated from Bessemer High School and received his bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1941, his master's degree from Peabody College in 1949 and his Ph.D. from Penn State University in 1963.

Dr. Hollis taught 32 years at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, where he was professor emeritus of education. He also taught at schools in Tennessee; Appalachian State University, Boone; Rowan County; and summer school at N.C. State University, Raleigh. He also previously served as principal of Celeste Henkel High School, Statesville.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.  

He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher and music director for more than 40 years. He also served as Sunday school teacher and music director at St. James and St. Stephen's Lutheran churches and Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education and Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society, which recognizes excellence in the social sciences.
