SALISBURY - John Thomas Peeler, 87, of Peeler Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 13, 1921, he was son of the late Thomas and Ellen Lyles Peeler. He was a self-employed building contractor who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Peeler served in the U.S. Army as an airplane mechanic during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 0342. A member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mr. Peeler enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son John Allen Peeler and daughter Linda Peeler Burton.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Helen Caskey Peeler; sons Terry Peeler and wife Sheila of Kannapolis and Gary Peeler of Salisbury; daughter Julie Peeler Allred and husband Melvin of Salisbury; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Service: 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. William Ketchie, pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 1- 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials: St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Parish Nurse Fund, Salisbury, NC.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is assisting the Peeler family in making arrangements.
