James Gibson "Buster" Brown, Sr.

James Gibson "Buster" Brown, Sr., 86, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017. He was born January 2, 1931, in Rowan County, NC, to the late Walter Lee Brown and Willie Gibson Brown.

Mr. Brown attended Dukeville School and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Korea. During his working years, he was employed by Southern Railroad, Merita Bread, and Lorillard Tobacco Sales, from which he retired as Sales Representative after 32 years. Mr. Brown was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Granite Quarry, was a member of the Cardinal Squares Square Dancing Group, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling and camping.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Brown, Charlie Brown, and Bill Brown.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norman Jean Trexler Brown, children, James G. Brown, Jr., and wife, Sarah, of Salisbury, David Keith Brown and wife, Pat, of Salisbury, and Jewel Brown Greene and husband, Keith, of Salisbury, sisters, Ann Kesler of Salisbury, Grace Guffy of Las Vegas, Dot Eller of Salisbury, and Becky Burrows of Salisbury, grandchildren, Christopher Lowman and wife, April, and Colin Brown, and great-grandchildren, Riley Lowman and Gabriella Lowman.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday evening, May 18, 2017, at Powles Staton Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 19, 2017, in Shiloh United Methodist Church, Granite Quarry. Burial with Military Rites by the NC National Guard and Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the physicians, nurses, and staff in the Emergency Deparment and ICU at Novant Health-Rowan Medical Center for going above and beyond in their care of Mr. Brown.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
