Fred E. Overcash, Sr.

ROCKWELL - Fred Eugene Overcash, Sr., 94, passed away Friday morning, July 5, 2013, at his residence.

Born Feb. 17, 1919 in Enochville, he was a son of the late Arthur Abraham and Eupha Overcash Overcash.

Mr. Overcash was a member of the U.S. Army during WWII and had retired after nearly 40 years of service from Cannon Mills. Following his retirement, he enjoyed flea marketing, gardening, fishing and baseball. The oldest member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Mr. Overcash had been on the church council, was the church financial secretary for 30 years, served on the property committee and was instrumental in the Easter pageant.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Stirewalt Overcash, July 31, 2002, and siblings, Harry, Herbert, Roy, Carl, Wade and Lucy Overcash, and Rosanna Deal.

Family members left to cherish his memory include his children, Lucy Oliver (Joe), of McLeansville, Fred Overcash, Jr. (Merenda) and Janie Overcash, both of Rockwell; brothers, Homer and Earl Overcash; his grandchildren, Lara, Ray, Fred III, Jerald, Walden, David and Michelle; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation and Services: The family will receive friends Saturday evening, July 6, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mr. Overcash's life will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, conducted by Pastor Bob Young. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove is serving the Overcash family.
