Anna Mae Eagle Smith

SALISBURY - Anna Mae Eagle Smith, 81, of Salisbury, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Born Feb. 1, 1926, in Rowan County, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Clifford Baxter Eagle and the late Ruth Wensil Eagle Joyner. Educated in Rowan County schools, she worked for nearly 40 years as a weaver at Cannon Mills and was of the Lutheran faith.

Her husband of 51 years, John Odell Smith Sr., died March 11, 1993. Also preceding her in death was infant son Ronald (Ronnie) W. Smith and son Donnis (Donnie) Dale Smith, who died Aug. 22, 2006.

Survivors include stepfather Ruben Joyner of Salisbury; sons John (Johnnie) Odell Smith Jr. of Rockwell and Connie Van Smith of Lexington; daughter Bonnie Smith Hinson and a very special lady who was always considered her second daughter, Bonnie Honeycutt Small, both of Salisbury; sisters Velma Badger of Baltimore, Md., Lillian Harvell and Vivian (Skip) Eller of Salisbury and Sue Ashby of Boston Lake, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith will be cremated and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Powles Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the charity or church of the donor's choice.

A special heart-felt thank you is extended to all the caregivers at Liberty Commons where Mrs. Smith has resided for the past seven years.
