MOCKSVILLE -- Richmond Ottis Sykes, 91, Somerset Court, formerly of Kenwick Drive, Winston-Salem, died Wednesday (Oct. 15, 2003) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.
Born Sept. 5, 1912, in Rowan County, Mr. Sykes was a representative with MetLife Insurance Co. for 35 years. He also had worked part time for Bo-Ty Florist and Carpenter's Flower Shop and was a breeder and salesman of canaries.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Burkehead United Methodist Church.
He was a long-time member and past president of the Winston-Salem Chapter of the American Rose Society, a rose consultant with L.A. Reynolds Garden Showcase and a designer, contributor and manager of the Tanglewood rose garden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Ruth Miller Sykes, in 2002, and by his daughter, Jane Combs, in 1991.
Survivors include two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: Memorial, 7 p.m. Friday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel. The body will be cremated.
Visitation: After the service at the funeral home.
Memorials: Winston-Salem Chapter, American Rose Society.
