Odessa Hatley

Odessa Hatley, 97, of 24724 U.S. 52, Albemarle, died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at the Lutheran Home in Albemarle.

Her funeral was at 11 a.m. today in Bethel Baptist Church in Locust. There was a 30 minute state prior to the funeral. The Rev. Charlie Littlejohn officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home.

Born July 29, 1910, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of Titus Rolandus Lambert and Mary Elizabeth “Molly” (Lowder) Lambert. She was a teacher for the Stanly County School System and taught elementary school at New London, Stanfield and Oakboro, then retired after her final teaching position at Locust. She was a charter and life-long member at Bethel Baptist Church where she was also a Sunday school teacher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton William Hatley, and two sisters, Carrie Lee Lambert and Beatrice Lambert.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Hatley and Charles Hatley, both of Oakboro; a daughter, Liz (Hatley) Culp of New London; a sister, Cleona Tucker of Albemarle; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family met at the home.
