KANNAPOLIS -- John Chalmers Eagle, 90, 523 Villa St., died Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) at his home.

Born March 23, 1913, in Rowan County, Mr. Eagle was a son of the late John Joseph Eagle and Lizzie Ruth Rufty Eagle. He was the former owner of Eagle's Jewelry in Albemarle and managed stores for Leonard's Jewelry of Salisbury.

A member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, he was in the Christian Fellowship Sunday school class. He was a volunteer for Hospice of Cabarrus County and served as a major in the Civil Air Patrol in Statesville. He was a member of the Watchmakers Guild in Kannapolis, Salisbury and Albemarle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Yarborough Eagle; a half sister, Pearl Leach; and a grandson.

Survivors include wife Margalene Hager Shimpock Eagle; daughters Nancy Eagle Peyton, Norwood, and Yolonda Shimpock Combs, Kannapolis; son John Chalmers Eagle Jr., Charlotte; half sister Louise Basinger, Salisbury; half brother, Richard Eller, Salisbury; stepbrothers Ned and Floyd Eller, both of Salisbury; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Richard Rhodes. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery,Salisbury.

Visitation:1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter, Yolonda Combs, 388 Laurel Crest Drive.

Lady's Funeral Home is in charge.
