SALISBURY - Ruby Holshouser Farrington, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, after having had her with us for 88 wonderful years.

Ruby, the daughter of Carrie Miller and James F. Holshouser. She was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Rowan County, the youngest of their 10 children.

She graduated from Granite Quarry High School in 1940. On July 20, 1941, she married Cecil (Buck) Farrington, Sr., who preceded her in death.

Ruby was employed at Rickman Manufacturing Company for 13 years and at Carolina Maid Products in Granite Quarry for 32 years as a Sewing Room Supervisor.

Over the years she held all offices in the Livengood-Peeler-Wood American Legion Auxiliary, Post #448 and was also President and Chaplain of the Rowan County Council.

Ruby won the Citizen of the Year Award from the Granite Quarry Civitan Club in 1990.

She was a life-time member of Christiana Lutheran Church, a member of the Jennie Thomas Bible Class, helped organize the Altar Guild and was a member of WELCA of Christiana.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Buck; and her youngest son, James David (Jim).

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Clarice and Freddy Einstein; and her son and daughter-in-law, Cecil, Jr. (Buster) and Monica Farrington; 11 grandchildren, Brad/Maggie, Hayley, Greg/Janet, Chip/Amy, Murray, T.J., Madeleine and Maryclaire; and six great-grandchildren, Nate, Macyn, Brandon, Nikki, Thomas and Charley.

Service and Burial: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Christiana Lutheran Church, Granite Quarry, conducted by Rev. Carl M Haynes. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation: Visitation at the Church Tuesday, Jan. 25 from 10-11 a.m.
