CONCORD - Thelma Eagle Silliman, 81, formerly of 120 Greenview Drive, Kannapolis, and for the last four years The Gardens of Taylor Glen, Concord, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at CMC-NorthEast. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethpage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, with the Rev. Darryl Baker, Dr. Steve Ayers and Dr. Charles Dorman officiating. Interment will be at Bethpage Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday in the fellowship hall of the church.

Mrs. Silliman was born June 10, 1926, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Carpenter L. Eagle and the late Joycie Snider Eagle. In earlier years, she worked for First National Bank, Salisbury, and later with Farmers & Merchants Bank, Granite Quarry, and then with Cabarrus County Schools, where she served as secretary/bookeeper at Central Cabarrus High School for 10 years. She assisted with various federal programs. She attended Salisbury Business School, and was a member of the Extension Homemakers Clubs in Cabarrus and Richmond counties over a period of 25 years. She was formerly active with the Junior Women's Club in Granite Quarry. A resident of Kannapolis for many years, she had lived in Granite Quarry, Rockingham, Concord and Salisbury at various times in her life. She participated with the Women of the Church circles through the years at Bethpage Presbyterian Church and at First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham. When she lived in Rockingham, she taught in the kindergarten Sunday school class at her church.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Edmond Ray Silliman Jr.; daughters, Joyce M. Silliman Keistler and husband, Roland D. Keistler Jr., of Brentwood, Tenn., and Janice L. Silliman Spears and husband, Michael Spears, of Apex; brothers, Bill W. Eagle and Glenn F. Eagle, both of Salisbury, and C.L. Eagle Jr. of Spencer; sister, Nancy Eagle Watson of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Christina Keistler Sartell and husband, Brad Sartell, Emily Keistler, Katherine (Katie) Spears and Michael Alan Spears.
