Lena Agnes Clark Underwood

Lena Agnes Clark Underwood, 91, of Albemarle, passed away , January 11, 2014, at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle.

Lena was born July 22, 1922 in Albemarle to the late Daniel Clark and the late Mary Myrtle Glover Clark . She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Samuel Alexander Underwood, Jr. in 1997, sisters; May Britt and Dorothy Page and brothers; Walter, J.D. and Ray Clark.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00, Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will gather at the home of Judy and David Holcomb, 1225 Wendover, Albemarle.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Hill Street Church of God in Albemarle and will be officiated by Ordained Bishop Thomas Andrufski. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory.

She is survived by one son, James Ray Underwood and Margo of Raleigh and her daughter, Judy Underwood Holcomb and husband, Dave of Albemarle; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

She was an active volunteer at Stanly County Nutrition Site and at Stanly County Senior Center. She was honored as the longest attending member of Hill Street Church of God, 74 years, where she attended regularly until her recent illness. She enjoyed yard sales and was an avid walker. She taught Sunday school and volunteered wherever needed at Hill Street Church of God.
