Laura Elizabeth Wells

Mrs. Laura Elizabeth (Betty B.) Wells, of Salem died December 23, 1991, in Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. A daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. P.J. Bame, she was born in Augusta, Ga.

She was an alumnus of Lenoir-Rhyme College, Hickory, N.C.

Mrs. Wells was involved in volunteer services in the Roanoke Valley community as well as other areas. She served as president of the Roanoke Valley Church Women United; president of the State Assembly, Church Women United; president of Women's Auxiliary, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Salem; board member of the Roanoke Valley Chapter, American Red Cross; president of Bethany Hall for Women, Roanoke; president of Lake Spring Garden Club, Salem; board member of the Roanoke Symphony Auxiliary.

Mrs. Wells is survived by her husband, William G. Wells; daughter, Mrs. Bitsie Poindexter, Atlantic Beach, N.C.; son, William Gordon Wells Jr., Midlothian; son, Joseph E. Wells, Falls Church; five grandchildren; sister, Mrs. B.P. Huddle, Alexandria; sister, Mrs. George Lingle, Gastonia, N.C.

A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 1991, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Salem, with Dr. Robert T. Copenhaver officiating. The family will receive friends in the parish hall immediately following the memorial service. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Columbarium Fund, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 42 E. Main St., Salem, Va.
