Notes for Aaron Furr
Enlisted a Private in Company K, 28th North Carolina Infantry at Liberty Mills, Virginia, on February 10, 1864. On May 12, 1864, he was wounded during the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse and he was sent home to recuperate. He returned to the war on September 12, 1864, and was captured at Petersburg, Virginia on April 2, 1865. He was confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, and was paroled on June 26, 1865. He married Sarah L. Hatley in 1865. They had eight children. In 1877, he was appointed Justice of the Peace, a title he held for 25 years. He was also Postmaster in Bloomington, North Carolina, for 17 years. He owned a saw mill, corn mill, and cotton gin on Ramsey's Branch. When he died at the age of 74, he was buried in the Bear Creek Church Cemetery. [Furr Family History]
