Helen Ruth Ketchie Hill

GOLD HILL - Helen Ruth Ketchie Hill, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Rowan County, to the late Viola Mae Hoffman Ketchie and Martin Luther Ketchie.

Mrs. Hill attended Rowan County Schools.

She worked at Frito Lay, Morgan Poultry, kept foster children, a homemaker and member of Liberty United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Hill loved fishing, raising flowers, making quilts and was a expert marksman and hunter. She was proud of her family and introduced them to others every chance she could. Her grandchildren will always remember the wonderful adventures they had with "Grammaw".

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Hill, who died in 2000. They married in 1938 and spent 64 years together.

Survivors include children, Jerry Lee Hill (Brenda), Ronald William Hill (fiancée Christiane), James Thomas Hill (Bonnie), Lunda Hill Eller (Eric) and Charlotte Hill, all of Gold Hill; grandchildren, Susan Waller, Brian Hill, Vickie Shields, Cristy Stiller, Matt Hill, Scott Hill, Luke Kesler, Andy Hill, Sarah Sweatt, Hunter Shue and Bobby Clement; brother, Ben Ketchie of Gold Hill; sister, Georgia McDaniel of Poquoson, Va.; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Service and Burial: 4 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty United Methodist Church, Rev. Brad Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery.

Visitation: 2:30 - 4 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
