ROCKWELL - James "Howard" Goodman, 83 of Rockwell, died November 4, 2006 at his residence. Mr. Goodman was born June 19, 1923 in Rowan County, son of the late Lewis Goodman and Mamie Barger Goodman. He was educated at the Rockwell School. He was retired from Gamewell Mechanical and worked as a punch presser with sheet metal. Mr. Goodman was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockwell.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Margie Bame Goodman, who died February 27, 1997, and a son, James Michael Goodman, who died July 17, 1952.

He is survived by two sons, Gary N. Goodman, and wife Hilda Goodman, Darrell R. Goodman and wife Donna Goodman, and one daughter, Sue G. Starnes and husband David Starnes all of Rockwell. One brother, Alvin Goodman and wife Frances Goodman of Rockwell, and one sister, Mrs. Ruth G. Shaver and husband, Melvin Shaver of Richfield, NC. Grandchildren are, Gary, Brad, Chad, Josh, and Amanda Goodman, Tyran Green, and Rodney Hammill, and seven great grandchildren.

The Funeral will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Rockwell, conducted by the Dr. Benny L. Vickrey, Sr. Pastor, and the Rev. Ricky Brown, Pastor of the Southside Baptist Church. Burial: will follow in the Brookhill Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the Powles Funeral Home from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Monday, and at the residence the remainder of the time.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Building Fund, Rockwell, NC.
