Rev. Jimmy Lane Bruce

Salisbury - Rev. Jimmy Lane Bruce of Salisbury, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 at home after several years of declining health.

Rev. Bruce was born Dec. 1, 1937 in Rowan County near Faith, to the late Armond Glenn and Lillian Jacobs Bruce. He was a 1956 Graduate of Granite Quarry High School, Lenoir-Rhyne College, and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Rev. Bruce was ordained by the NC Lutheran Synod at his home church, Faith Lutheran, Nov. 24, 1963 and pastored St. James, Chilhowie; St. Peters, Shenandoah; Holy Trinity, Martinsville, in Va., St. Paul, Newton (Startown), and Living Word, Laurinburg, in NC

During his pastorates he took an active part in community affairs serving in various capacities in civic organizations including Lions Club and Rotary, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served as chaplain of Habitat for Humanity and Scotland Memorial Hospital. He was a faithful member of the Laurinburg Morning Drinking Club and an Ambassador for the Laurinburg/Scotland County Chamber of Commerce.

Rev. Bruce was preceded in death by brothers Donald Ray and Robert Glenn Bruce.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Martha Susan Link Bruce; son Jonathan Mark Bruce and wife, Nancy Howard Bruce of Hickory; daughter Martha Constance "Connie" Bruce Reuter and husband, Capt. William H. Reuter IV of California, Md. and five grandchildren Matthew Howard Bruce, Jonathan Luke Bruce, William Ryan Reuter, James Logan Reuter and Megan Brittany Reuter; brothers Darvin Jacobs Bruce and wife, Lillian Gaither Bruce, of Greensboro, The Rev. Gene Wayne Bruce and wife, Pat Moore Bruce of Statesville, Johnny Carroll Bruce and wife, Ann Eury Bruce, of Salisbury and 14 nieces and nephews.

Services: Commendation Monday at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church Cemetery followed by the Memorial Service at Faith Lutheran Church. Conducted by the Rev. Loyd Ginn, pastor; Rev. Ed Harper, retired; Rev. Chris Christopher and Rev. Gene Bruce. Clergy and spouses will be seated as a group at the Memorial Service. The color of the day is RED.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Faith Lutheran Church Family Life Center from 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials: Faith Lutheran Church or to Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care.
