Geneva Bostian Kirk

SALISBURY - Geneva Rosetta Bostian Kirk, formerly of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at Blue Ridge Health Care in Raleigh, where she had lived for the past seven years.

Mrs. Kirk was born in Rowan County on Feb. 22, 1916. She was the daughter of the late William Russell and Nonie Cress Bostian. Educated in the Rowan County schools and Catawba College, she retired in 1978 from East Rowan High School, where she had worked as a manager of the cafeteria for 19 years. She previously worked in the office at Cannon Mills.

She was a lifelong member of First United Church of Christ where she was very active, including teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, serving on the church council and was financial secretary and treasurer for 25 years. She was a member of the Dearborn Bible Class and the church women's organization.

Mrs. Kirk loved her family, her church, and her many friends. She maintained her sense of humor and determination until her last days. She appreciated the visits, phone calls, and many cards, especially during the time she lived in Raleigh.

Her husband, P.J. Kirk, Sr., preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1992.

Survivors include sons Phillip J. Kirk, Jr. and wife Margaret of Raleigh and Salisbury; Ronald E. Kirk and wife Herta of Cary; daughter Patricia K. Mitchell and husband Kent of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Angela Prenoveau of Apex, Kelly Plyer of Sherrill's Ford, Wendi Hamilton of Destin, Fla., Ronny Kirk and Jennifer Kirk of Cary, and Ashlee and Allison Kirk of Raleigh; seven great-grandchildren, Patrick Newsome, Madison, Bree and Zane Hamilton, and Cole, Katelyn and Alexis Prenoveau; sisters-in-law Margaret Weant of Granite Quarry and Ruth Needham of Knoxville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Service: Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at First United Church of Christ, with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. The Rev. Michael Childress and the Rev. David Crook will officiate. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.

At other times, the family will be at the home of Phil and Margaret Kirk, 2535 Duke Circle, Salisbury (adjacent to the Catawba College campus).

The family would like to express its appreciation to the caring staff at Trinity Oaks and Lutheran Home in Salisbury, Brighton Gardens and Blue Ridge Health Care in Raleigh, and Hospice of Wake County.
