Sunday, May 30, 2010 — Rev. James Palmer Kirk, 91, of 524 Cobble Stone Circle, Bloomingdale, Ga., died at 9:11 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at Morningside Assisted Living, Concord.

His funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 30, at Stanly Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tom Byerly and Rev. Tom Kirk will officiate and burial will be in Palmerville Cemetery, New London.

The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home from 2 to 3 Sunday afternoon prior to the hour of the service.

Born Feb. 2, 1919, in Farmville, he was the son of the late Jones Ezra and Cora Eddins Kirk. He was a graduate of Wake Forest University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and was a retired Southern Baptist Missionary with 37 years of service. He was a member of Morningstar Baptist Church. He was a gentle warrior, loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was married to the late Maxie Crawford Kirk who preceded him in death Oct. 17, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Kirk.

He is survived by two sons, Rev. Tom Kirk of England and Robert Kirk of Concord; two daughters, Margaret Byerly of Bloomingdale, Ga., and Elizabeth Robinson of Greentown, Ind.; a brother, Dr. Daniel E. Kirk of New London; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Stanly Funeral Home is serving the family.
