John Eagle, older brother of Joseph Eagle by 21 months, had 14 children by 3 wives over a 30 year period, 1859-1889. Here are the ages at death of those children in order of birth.

By wife #3: 40 killed in train wreck, 72. 27, 26, 22, 32, 70, 55, 85
What's striking is the four in succession who died so young. Only the one who died at 22 did not marry and have children. Only the one who died at 26 was female. They were born between 1876 and 1883. The five children of Levi Frick and Julia Ann Stoner who died young were born from 1872 to 1885.

But widow Martha’s application for a Confederate Widow’s Pension, filed in Rowan County on Dec 15, 1933, states that her husband John Eagle enlisted in Rowan County.
