Charles William Long

LEXINGTON - Charles William "C.W." Long Sr., 85, of Lamb Road, passed away Sunday morning, January 13, 2008, in Forsyth Medical Center after a short illness.

Mr. Long was born March 4, 1922, in Davidson County to Benjamin Franklin Long and Sudie Smith Long.

He was retired from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII. He was also a former Fire Chief of the Tyro Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Long was preceded in death by a brother Tommy Long; and four sisters, Virgina Pickett, Bessie McBride, Frances Wilson, and Mary Helen Swicegood.

He is survived by his wife Geneva Morgan Long, of the home; a son Charles William Long Jr. and wife Michelle of Lexington; daughters Barbara Barnes and husband Jeff of Lexington, and Betty Cain and husband Rick of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 10-11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church prior to services.

Service: A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, in the chapel of Tyro United Methodist Church. Revs. Randy Foster and Max Shoaf will officiate. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
