Everett Wayne Eagle Sr.

YORKTOWN - Everett Wayne Eagle Sr. passed away Dec. 4, 2003.

Mr. Eagle was born in Salisbury, N.C., on Oct. 10, 1921, to parents Mary Lyerly Eagle and William Armstrong Eagle. The family left Salisbury in June of 1929, to reside in the city of Newport News, Va.

Everett graduated from Newport News High School in June of 1938 and went on to attend Newport News Apprentice School. In June of 1941, he was hired by the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and later transferred to the Engineering Division of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, USN, where he stayed until his retirement from civil service. He also served four years in the Navy during WWII.

Everett was deeply involved in the York County Youth Baseball Programs. He was instrumental in the design, development, and building of the original Little League Ball Park on Grafton Bethel's school grounds. He was also involved in developing the Pony and Babe Ruth Leagues and ultimately retired as the Virginia State District Director of the Babe Ruth Program.

Everett was also active in many community and civic organizations. He served as the York Red Cross Treasurer for four years, the Providence Methodist Church Treasurer for one year and the Church Finance Chairman for two years. He was a member of the York County Lions Club for 35 years and progressed through the "chairs" until eventually serving as the club's president.

He is survived by his wife, Judith H. Eagle; his children, Everett Wayne Eagle Jr. and Sharon Rowe; his stepchildren, Kimberly Lackey and Kelly Presson; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Jacqueline S. Eagle, and his son, Ronald William Eagle.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, in Providence United Methodist Church in Grafton, with the Rev. Keith Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Providence United Methodist Church Building Fund, Yorktown, VA.
