YORK, Pa. - Johnny J. Jones, 84, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Doris J. (Grim) Jones.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main Street, Dallastown, Pa. with his pastor, Rev. Roger Mentzer officiating. Preceding the service, a visitation will be held from 10-11a.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Hefner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, Pa. is in charge of the arrangements.
Born April 8, 1929, in Salisbury, N.C., he was the son of the late William A. and Daisy N. (Lyerly) Jones.
He was employed with GTE as a supervisor in the installation maintenance department for 30 years until his retirement in 1987.
A United States Army veteran of the Korean War, he was also a 50 plus year member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Dallastown, Pa. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons - Red Lion Lodge, Dallastown Lions Club, and a Amateur radio operator - call sign "WA3 UDA".
He will be sadly missed by his family. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Joyce Faulkner and husband Ernie and Jane Rudisill and husband Mike; his son, Michael O. Jones and wife Donna; daughter, Judi A. Smith and husband Ray; grandchildren, Ryan Smith and wife Erin, Josh Smith and wife Jenny and Evan and Ellen Jones; and great-grandchild Atticus Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Acres Nursing Home, 118 Pleasant Acres Road, York, PA 17402.
