GOLD HILL - Mrs. Annie Lou Wagoner Russell, 89, of Gold Hill, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Autumn Care in Salisbury.

She was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Stanly County, a daughter of the late William Columbus Wagoner and Lizzy Mae Blackwelder Wagoner.

Mrs. Russell was a graduate of Richfield High School, had attended Pfeiffer College and worked for Carolina Maid for 35 years. She was a member of Gold Hill United Methodist Church, Historic Gold Hill and Mines Foundation and enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, birds and her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Guy "Bill" Russell; grandson Dean Hammill; brothers Dewey, Will, Haden, Roy and Coy Wagoner; and sisters Nola Lefler, Lena Hodge and Elsie Shoe.

Survivors include son Gary William Russell and "daughter-in-love" Sonja Taylor; daughter Carolyn Hammill and husband Edwin of Gold Hill; brother William Columbus "Buck" Wagoner Jr. of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Mark Hammill and Brad Taylor and wife Teresa; and one great-grandchild, Cole Taylor.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Services: Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15 at Gold Hill United Methodist Church by the Rev. Anthony Moore, pastor. Burial will follow in Gold Hill Cemetery.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Ronnie Barrier, Dr. Mark Wimmer and the staff of Autumn Care for their love, care and support.
