SALISBURY - George Alexander Page, 78, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Spencer Health Care, Spencer, after a period of declining health.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Haven Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronald W. Fink. Burial will be in Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury. Members of the Lutheran Men In Mission are asked to sit together.

He was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Stanly County, son of the late Elizabeth Dunn Page and the late Daniel C. Page. He attended Stanly County Schools and retired as plant superintendent with Stanback Powder Co. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was an active member of Haven Lutheran Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, past president of the church council and Lutheran Men of the church, a former state president and life member of the Lutheran Men In Mission, the executive committee, a YMCA trustee with Home Mission Foundation for the Lutheran Men. He served on the Lutheran Outdoor Ministries, was past president and charter member of the Industrial Management Council.

Survivors are his wife, Alice Foil Page of the home, whom he married June 16, 1946; daughter, Judy Page of Greensboro; brother, Phil Page of Glen St. Mary, Fla.; and sisters, Isabelle Hatley and Esther Bryson, both of Millingport.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Lyerly Funeral Home, 515 South Main St., Salisbury. The family will be at the residence, at other times.

George graduated in 1940 from Millingport High School, Millingport, Stanly County, NC. He was named after George Butler of Maryland and Alexander (Sandy) Dougal of Scotland who were holding evangelistic services in a tent on a neighboring farm at the time of his birth. The two evangelists were hosted in the Page home for some of their stay, and Alexander Dougal baptised Elizabeth Dunn Page, George's mother.
